A Little Bit from the Past… Gros Michel or Fat Mike was the first type of bananas that was used for mass worldwide exportation since the 1800′. In 1965, this species of bananas has gone extinct worldwide due to the panama disease, an excess of fungal that attacks the roots of the banana. Afraid of losing too much money, they had to start finding a new kind of banana. Since that year, cultivators have started the massive growth of Cavendish Bananas as they were very resistant to the fungus. Today, the Cavendish bananas are starting to face the same problem as the diseases are getting stronger and stronger called the Tropical Race 4.
